Extracurriculars
Our students have a variety of opportunities to excel in athletics, fine arts, and leadership. The district competes in the Top of Iowa Conference, offering sports such as football, wrestling, basketball, track, and volleyball. Students also engage in band and choir, supported by the Nashua-Plainfield Music Boosters. Leadership is fostered through clubs like FFA and FCCLA, where students develop teamwork, creativity, and responsibility while contributing to the community. These activities help students grow both individually and as part of the broader school community.
FFA
In 2023, Kollyn Lentz, Michael Stille, and Luke Harrington (not pictured) were bestowed with the American FFA Degree. Of the nearly 945,000 FFA members across America, less than one percent will go on to earn this recognition!

FCCLA
The Nashua-Plainfield FCCLA chapter promotes leadership, personal growth, and career readiness through family and consumer sciences education. Members craftedhandmade pillowcases for the the Holiday Shoppe, an annual community event that helps families in need choose Christmas gifts for their children, spreading holidaycheer kindness. FCCLA highlighted mental health with activities focused on self-care in district meetings. Nashua-Plainfield shared their therapy dog, Nash, with over 200 students. Nash was a hit, happily giving high fives to his new friends!
DECA

N-P students participated in the 2024 DECA Fall Leadership Conference at Iowa State University. DECA, a newly established student organization at Nashua-Plainfield, focuses on business education, providing students with opportunities to develop leadership and career skills in the business field.
Husky Leadership Team

The Husky Leadership Team (HLT) at Nashua-Plainfield High School is a student-driven initiative aimed at fostering leadership skills among students. Members of this team engage in a variety of activities focused on developing teamwork, responsibility, and communication.
They participate in leadership conferences and collaborate with other schools to share ideas and strategies for creating a positive school culture. The group works on projects that build school spirit and encourage student involvement in community activities, while focusing on personal growth as leaders. Through HLT, students gain valuable skills that help them contribute meaningfully to their school and beyond!
National History Day
Nashua-Plainfield Schools’ National History Day group is a voluntary co-curricular academic program that challenges students to perform historical research, analyze and present topics in various project categories at district, state and national contests.
Many students in the group have won contests at all district, state and national levels in past years and have been regularly recognized for their achievements.
The 2023-2024 National History Day contest season provided 22 students, representing 12 projects from grades 7-12, the chance to compete. All 12 projects earned 1st or 2nd place in their categories, qualifying for the 2024 state contest. This outstanding achievement highlights the students’ hard work and dedication.





Band
The Nashua-Plainfield Community School District’s band program, led by Scott Stroud, has an impressive track record of success in Iowa. Their marching band consistently earns Division I ratings at the Iowa High School Music Association (IHSMA) State Marching Band Festival, showcasing excellence despite challenges such as weather interruptions and student injuries.
In addition to their marching band, Nashua-Plainfield’s concert band has also received prestigious recognition. For example, the high school concert band was chosen as the Class 1A Performing Honor Band at the Iowa Bandmasters Association (IBA) Conference in 2018. This honor is considered one of the top achievements for bands in the state. The band program overall emphasizes both performance quality and student development, consistently earning superior ratings across various events and being highlighted in professional music education platforms.

Success In Sports

The N-P girls’ track team made history by securing its first-ever state track and field title in 2022. Key moments included freshman Kadence Huck winning the Class 1A Girls 400-Meter Dash, marking the first state title for a female athlete from the school. Huck, along with teammates Makenzie Foelske, Jennah Carpenter, and Abbie Hyde, went on to win the 1600-Meter Distance Medley Relay. The team’s performance continued to impress, with additional victories in the 800-Meter Sprint Medley Relay, contributing to their state championship win. This milestone was a significant achievement for the program, showcasing a combination of individual and relay strengths. In 2023 and 2024, the girls won the Class 1A State Runner-Up trophy.

The N-P girls’ golf team posted a season-low score of 370 at the 2024 state meet, finishing in 9th place. Paige Franzen led the team with a strong 11th-place finish in the medalist race, helping to propel the Huskies to a competitive showing at the state level. The girls’ golf team has a history of competing/placing in state competitions, including 4th place in 2014, 3rd place in 2015 and 7th place in 2023.

N-P has a long history of wrestling success. From dual team to individual finishes, the N-P Husky Wrestling team has produced many state champions. Class 1A state champions include:
- Mitch Norton – 2005, 145-pound title champion
- Cody Johnston – 2008, 130-pound title champion
- Caleb Wilken – 2010, 285-pound title champion
- Andy Glaser – 2012, 182-pound title champion
- Garret Rinken – 2021 & 2023 113-pound/126-pound title champion
- Jayden Rinken – 2023 106-pound title champion

The boys’ wrestling team also earned the prestigious 2024 Academic All-State honor (this is the second year in a row) as a team, achieving a cumulative varsity GPA of 3.48. This recognition highlights the athletes’ academic dedication alongside their athletic performance.

The Nashua-Plainfield High School basketball teams, both boys and girls, actively compete in their conference and have shown consistent participation in seasonal games. The boys’ team had a mixed record during the 2022-2023 season, with several close games showcasing their competitive spirit. Highlights included victories against teams like Rockford (73-52) and St. Ansgar (66-61), though they faced tough losses against strong opponents such as Osage and Newman Catholic. The team displays steady performance and a drive to improve each season.


The girls’ team also competes rigorously in their conference and beyond. They show determination in their games, aiming to strengthen their skills and teamwork each season. Specific achievements for recent seasons are not widely highlighted online, but their commitment to representing Nashua-Plainfield in regional competitions remains strong. Both teams participate in the Top of Iowa Conference and work to improve their standings annually.
